Three Rivers Avian Center annual Migration Celebration is coming back this weekend

PIPESTEM, WV (WOAY)- Three Rivers Avian Center will host its annual migration celebration this weekend!

It’s a free family-friendly event with plenty to do for anyone of any age. There are kids’ activities, arts and crafts, a bird of prey showcase, a photography workshop, bird walks, a scavenger hunt, and more.

They are also excited that their friends at Moonstruck Maple will join them to discuss sustainable agriculture and its effects on birds. All of this will happen this Saturday at Pipestem Resort from 9 am to 5 pm.

They are excited to continue this celebration and bring it to Pipestem.

“International Migratory Bird Day was started many years back, and it’s always been the Saturday before Mother’s Day. So it really works out well being at Pipestem because here we’re celebrating the return of our spring migrants. We’re talking about the ecosystems they live in, what they eat, how they behave, where you can find them, and giving ideas for tips and things. How to take care of wild birds,” explained Wendy Prreone, the Executive Director of Three Rivers Avian Center. “In the last 20 years, we have lost 52% of the migratory birds that used to fill our skies. And so we’re excited to be able to do this. We’ve been doing this celebration since 2002, and we are just moving it to Pipestone Resort State Park this year. So it’s going to be a great weekend.”
