Three Mercer County health officials step down

BLUEFIELD, WV (WOAY) – Three Mercer County health officials are leaving their positions.

On Friday, July 31 at the Mercer County Health Department, administrator Susan Kadar has announced she is retiring, and health officer Dr. Kathy Wides resigned.

In response to losing two health officials in the same day, Dr. Randy Stevens, a Board of Health Chairman, also announced his resignation.

Dr. Wides told WOAY she decided to resign because of disagreements with the board.

“I felt that the board and I were pulling in different directions. And I think it was a good idea for them to find someone they could work with. You know we all need to pull together; it’s a crisis. We all have to pull on the same oar.”

The new board chair is now Dr. Randy Maxwell and the vice chair is Roger Topping.

Brenda Donithan, the department’s threat preparedness and strategic national stockpile coordinator, was voted as the new interim administrator of the health department.
