Post Christmas shoppers still feeling holiday cheer

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – There was the hype up to Christmas but now that the day has passed people have turned their attention to sorting through gifts and deciding what to do next, as well as preparing for the new year.

Southern West Virginia residents share their festive experiences.

“Shopping’s been good today; not real crowded. I found some good deals, so it’s been a good day,” said Craigsville resident Dustin Underwood, at the Crossroads Mall. “We had a great Christmas getting to spend time with my family and kids.”

For this Fayetteville teen, spending time with family at Christmas…

“Is wonderful. Today we’re just shopping and having fun; I’m here with my sister,” said Christopher Adkins.

Christmas Day has come and gone, but holiday shopping isn’t over. It’s that day of returns and exchanges and even more spending.

Christopher received a lot of good stuff this Christmas, from toy cars to a telescope for looking at the stars.

“I got some blankets and asked for a keyboard,” Adkins said. “Today we’re going to my grandma’s to get my Christmas presents there.”

It made sense to make a mall stop after a festive holiday to see what they had on Christmas clearance — where you can find some of the best sales.

“We went to Walmart and they had tons of wrapping paper and got more than we needed for next year. We should be able to wrap (gifts) in all different colors,” said Summersville resident Derek Mullins. “We went to Carowinds in Charlotte (and) got to look at the Christmas lights down there. Kind of wish we had some snow, but we’ll take what we can get.”
