GRANDVIEW, WV (WV)- kb saine says she’s excited to join the team and create art here in southern West Virginia. saine will be the new artistic director for Theatre West Virginia.
I asked saine can you explain your role and what you’re going to be doing with Theatre West Virginia for this next season?
“The artistic director is largely responsible for all of the art things, so hiring of the artists, running auditions, figuring out who our designers will be for the scenery and for the lighting, and who’s going to make sure that the microphones work, that the sound is appropriate,” explained kb saine, new Artistic Director of Theatre West Virginia.
saine has over 20 years of experience in professional theatre. Most recently, she was the director of contemporary theatre studies at Shepherd University. She says that Theatre West Virginia has a large history in the mountain state.
“I think the thing that is most interesting and exciting is that I have inherited such a legacy,” said saine. “And because I’ve been working in the state for quite some time, folks have just come out of the woodwork. People who are alumni of Theatre West Virginia have reached out from all over the place to let me know how excited they are. So this reinvigoration has been really exciting and really encouraging.”
While the summer season doesn’t open till June, she and the team have already started preparing.
“I’ve been working with our choreographer and with our guest directors and with our musical director to make sure that everyone is geared up and ready to go for the season,” said saine. “We just finished working with the board to choose the shows that we’ll be doing this season.”
Those shows will be the West Virginia staples of “Honey in the Rock” and “Hatfields and McCoys.” They’ll also be bringing “Into the Woods” and “Seussical” to the Grandview stage.
