Theatre West Virginia summer season opens

BEAVER, WV (WOAY)—Theatre West Virginia has officially opened its summer season! It opened earlier this evening with the show “Honey in the Rock.”

This season, audiences can see three different shows: ‘Honey in the Rock,’ ‘Hatfields and McCoys,’ and the musical ‘Footloose.’ All the shows will take place at the Grandview Amphitheater in Beaver. Doors will open between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and the show begins between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

‘Honey and the Rock’ and ‘Hatfields and McCoys’ will run every other day, except Mondays, until June 30th. Footloose will open on July 11th and run till the 28th.

This year’s season theme is called “Raise a Ruckus.” This is due to the story behind the two plays, which are about the history of the mountain state. The general manager of Theatre West Virginia explains the tales.

“It’s a heartwarming, very heartwarming story of how West Virginia became a state,” explained Gayle Oaks, the General Manager for Theatre West Virginia. “Then there’s ‘Hatfields and McCoys.’ ‘Hatfields McCoys’ is the feud that everybody knows in this area that we’ve been running for years. And, yeah, we’ve got that one going again. It’s between two families, between the Hatfields of West Virginia and the McCoys of Kentucky, and the fight over a hog. It all started with a hog.”

As of now, the only show that is completely sold out is this Thursday for West Virginia Day, but hurry, they are going fast!
