Charleston, WV (WOAY) The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is offering its assistance to residents interested in getting a Real ID this winter, ahead of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) deadline.
Starting February 1, 2026, the TSA will require additional identity checks and a $45 fine for all passengers without a Real ID or passport.
Real IDs have a gold star in the corner.
West Virginia DMV Real ID manager, Mike Way, advises residents to bring their birth certificates and name change documents the first time they get their Real ID.
After the initial issuance, the process will be the same as a regular renewal each time.
Residents will need ot visit the DMV in person, and there is a $10 fee.
There is also an option to save time with the Real ID Headstart online, allowing residents to upload their necessary documents before visiting the DMV.
