West Virginia (CNN)- The beginning of tax filing season is here as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) starts accepting 2024 federal tax returns today.
The deadline to file will be April 15th.
The agency’s direct file program will also be open in 25 states, allowing eligible tax filers to file their taxes directly with the IRS for free.
In the next several weeks, some filers may also get a separate check from the IRS this year.
The agency is sending money to one million people eligible for the 2021 recovery rebate credit but didn’t claim it on their taxes that year.
