BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley Fire Department has officially moved into their new station on Industrial Drive.
“This is our new station, Station 3; it is replacing our station on Eisenhower Drive. That station was open for about 46 years, it is a metal building, and it served its purpose,” Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau Earnest Parson said.
After months of waiting, firefighters are now able to work from their brand new 20,000 square foot fire station located right off the Beckley Bypass.
“As far as responding to areas. It is a good location. It also houses out Fire Code Prevention offices. So it’s a great facility, and we’re under one roof.”
Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau Earnest Parson says Station 3 is the ideal station for new trainees. The new facility has larger classrooms with state-of-the-art technology.
“The classrooms are larger at this facility because we do a lot of public training from CPR to training and first aid, so we were limited in size at our old station. We could hold approximately 24 at the old station, and at this one, we have the capacity for 48 people.”
The building is also home to the Beckley Code Enforcement and Fire Prevention offices.
“We wanted to come under one roof with the Code Enforcement and the Fire Prevention. This was a great opportunity to go ahead and make that space,” Parson said.
The new Beckley Fire Station is located at 232 Industrial Drive.
