Thanksgiving Week will feature active weather

It is a mild evening around the region, with plenty of clouds. A few showers to our west are expected to come into the region as a warm front overspreads the state. Showers are falling in eastern Kentucky, and some of them did show up on the radar in West Virginia. But with humidity levels in the 40 percent neighborhood, they weren’t able to make it to the ground. There will be another chance for that to happen later tonight.

With the cloud cover and the chance for showers, plus the influence of the warm front, lows will be in the middle to upper 40s in most areas, with the usual colder spots closer to 40 degrees.

Tomorrow, there will be a good chance of rain as there is some moisture for this system to work with. Later in the day, there is a possibility for some thunder mixed in with the showers, but the chances for that are small.

The atmospheric models have thunder chances at 10% and near 30% through tomorrow night in Beckley, respectively. The higher number is decent, but not as high as it would be during the summer storm season. Once again, the warm front will influence the temperatures, and they will reach the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.

On Wednesday, the rain chances will remain elevated as the cold front side of this vigorous storm pushes into the region.

Highs will still be on the mild side, generally in the middle 50s, but will drop off quickly once the cold air makes its way into the state. By Wednesday night, the skies will have cleared, and the temperatures will drop to below freezing. Before sunset, we’ll see some sunshine, and that should help to dry the roads. If they’re not dry, there will be a risk for re-freezing, so being cautious on the roads is the right play if you’re headed out Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

We’ll get a couple of cold, but mostly sunny/mostly clear nights later in the forecast as we head out looking for the big holiday deals. We’ll see highs on Thursday and Friday only in the 30s, and lows from Thursday night through Friday night will be in the upper teens! The end of the extended forecast does feature a slight warmup, but also more chances for rain and snow.

Beyond the seven-day forecast, a warmup is being hinted at by the Climate Prediction Center.
