FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY)- A kayaker is lucky to be alive after a dramatic rescue was underway at Kanawha Falls early this morning.
According to Captain Brogan of the WV DNR, Fayette County 911 received a call of a missing kayaker around 7:45 Sunday night. A search effort began for Samuel Davis of Tennessee, but did not start successfully. Friends of Davis began discussing his disappearance on social media which promoted authorities to search for Davis under the waterfall.
Friends of Davis were able to go out and search, and could hear Davis scream out from behind the waterfall. Soon after, the swift water rescue team was able to perform the rescue at around 1 this morning. Davis was rescued and was in the first stage of hypothermia, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The rescue effort was conducted by the WV DNR, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, every fire department in Fayette County as well as the swift water rescue team.
