Richlands, VA (WOAY) – A Tazewell County woman has been arrested following a hit-and-run accident investigation.
According to a media release from the Richlands Police Department, on Friday, June 6, 26-year-old Courtney Nicole Perkins of Raven, Va was arrested and charged with Failure to Report an Accident Involving Serious Injury (Class Five Felony), and Obstruction of Justice (Class One Misdemeanor).
On Wednesday June 4 officers with the Richlands Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Front Street near McDonalds. When officers arrived, they found an injured female and provided medical treatment until paramedics arrived, stabilized and transported the patient.
According to the release, officers began their investigation, and it was determined that the car that hit the victim left the scene of the accident without stopping, and the car was later found unoccupied.
Courtney Nicole Perkins was arrested and taken to Southwest Regional Jail. The accident remains under investigation.
Officers with the Richlands Police department urge the public to slow down and drive carefully to prevent these types of accidents from occurring.
