Tazewell, VA (WOAY) – The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office is enhancing its investigative capabilities with a new $90,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.
The funding will allow the department to add a Leica Scanner to its Detective Division.
The high-tech tool uses specialized software to capture detailed, high-resolution 3D images of crime scenes, creating accurate digital reconstructions that can be critical in solving complex cases.
Sheriff Brian Hieatt says the scanner will be a significant asset, adding, “This equipment will greatly add to the many other resources our Detective Division uses to solve crimes and assist the citizens of our county.”
He also praised Detective Sergeant Michelle Conklin for her work in securing the grant and completing the required training.
The new technology is expected to play a key role in enhancing investigations and supporting justice efforts throughout Tazewell County.
