Tazewell, VA (WOAY)- One local town is closing a road for the summer to complete a water project.
The town of Tazewell has announced the closure of Fincastle Turnpike for the remainder of the summer to complete a $2.5 million water project.
The town has been awaiting approval from the Virginia Department of Health to begin the project, and it has now received the green light to proceed.
The project will stabilize the pressures in the lines and fix leaks caused by high pressure.
The project will also help supply water to the town of Pocahontas and the Pocahontas Correctional Facility.
When work begins, the streets affected will be Quarry Street, Cherry Street, and Fincastle Turnpike.
Although the road will be closed to through traffic, one lane will remain open for property owners and residents.
The lane will begin at the red light of Fincastle and Ben Bolt Avenue and end at the bridge before the Hardee’s entrance.
The town of Tazewell asks for the public’s patience until the upgrades are completed.
