Suspect in custody following single vehicle car accident in Nicholas County

Summersville, WV (WOAY) – Nicholas County authorities have a suspect in custody following a single-vehicle accident on Route 41 in Summersville that escalated into further chaos. 

 

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Dustin Dale Young, allegedly stole another vehicle after overpowering its driver, who stopped at the initial crash.   

The suspect then reportedly traveled to a residence in the stolen vehicle and attacked a woman with a hammer.   

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.   

The suspect then allegedly continued back toward Summersville in the stolen car, where he struck another vehicle, resulting in the other driver’s death. 

A Summersville city police officer arrived on the scene of the crash and aided the victim, who was trapped in his car.   

The suspect then reportedly stole the city police cruiser while the officer was assisting the driver and fled to Craigsville.   

The cruiser was stopped by the Nicholas County Sheriff’s office, and the suspect was taken into custody by senior Trooper L. L. Cox with the West Virginia State Police without incident.   

Young faces several criminal charges as the West Virginia state police continue investigating.
