Welch, WV (WOAY)- Two people are dead, one is seriously injured, and another is facing charges following a fatal car accident in McDowell County.
According to court documents, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 16 near Squire on April 10.
A witness reported the accident to the authorities, stating that the collision occurred when a red truck attempted to pass the other vehicle.
Upon investigating the scene, authorities discovered two passengers, Former Police chief Richard Dillon Sr. and his son Richard Dillon Jr. of Bluefield, deceased in the first vehicle.
The driver of the car, Angela Pruitt, was transported to the hospital and is being treated for significant injuries.
Authorities arrested and charged the other driver, 18-year-old Brandon Dunford of Berwind, with two counts of negligent homicide, passing a no-passing zone, failure to maintain control, and reckless driving.
Dunford is currently awaiting further court proceedings in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
