Suspect arrested following police chase, search

BLUEFIELD, VA (WOAY) A wanted suspect has been arrested after a multi-state police chase today.

Jacob Akers, who was wanted on multiple warrants, was spotted at the Walmart in Bluefield, Virginia.

An officer responded to the scene and attempted to take him into custody. Akers was able to break loose and jump into a blue van. Before he pulled off, the passenger of the van jumped out and was detained by police.

A backup officer began chasing the van, and another passenger jumped out near Maryland Avenue in Bluefield West Virginia.

The chase ended in Bland County, Virginia where police had to end the pursuit.

However, Akers was captured later on by sheriff’s deputies. In addition to his original warrants, he faces charges of abduction, assault of a police officer, fleeing, reckless driving, unauthorized use of disorderly conduct, and trespassing.
