Summers County man arrested on multiple charges

Hilldale, WV (WOAY) – A Hilldale man faces multiple charges in an attempted break in.

Summers County Sheriff Justin Faris tells WOAY that deputies responded to a break in attempt at a home on Doug Craft Road in the Hilldale area of Summers County on Friday March 28, 2025.

Upon investigating deputies allege that suspect Norton Canterbury had had fired multiple rounds through the front door of the residence in an attempt to gain entry.

The person who lives at the home was a lady who deputies say was in a relationship with Mr. Canterbury.

Canterbury left the home before sheriff’s deputies arrived and was later located on Brookside Drive in Forest Hill after Deputies were able to talk him out of the residence to arrest him.

Summers County Deputies charged Norton Canterbury with domestic assault, wanton and endangerment, firing a Firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling, obstructing, attempt to commit a felony and Destruction of property.
