Summers County, WV (WOAY)- A massive rescue operation unfolded in Summers County on Tuesday, September 2.
Thirty-seven men and women from 11 different agencies, along with the Summers County 911 Center, worked tirelessly to save a man in distress.
An 84-year-old gentleman suffered an apparent heart attack while ginseng hunting near the mouth of Indian Creek.
The rescue began around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and concluded at 10:30 p.m. as rescuers maneuvered through rugged terrain.
Summers County Commissioner Mike Gore had an opportunity to visit the scene.
He reports that “the professionalism, bravery, and sheer determination on display were nothing short of inspiring.”
Thanks to the group’s heroic efforts, the man was airlifted safely to a hospital.
