Summers County, WV (WOAY) – The Summers County 911 center says that the body of a missing swimmer was recovered from the New River this morning.
Officials say they were alerted about a missing swimmer near Brooks Falls yesterday afternoon. First responders responded and searched the river with boats, drones, and Search and Rescue personnel.
Crews eventually had to abandon the river as it grew dark and thunderstorms moved in.
The recovery operation began this morning, and a DNR dive team found the person at around 10 a.m. today.
Summers County Emergency Officials expressed their condolences to the family of the victim and are asking people to wear life jackets when they are near the river.
