Summer softball tournament to attract thousands

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Sports fans have something to look forward to this summer.

Commissioner Ron Hedrick says he’s working to put on a softball tournament at Fitzpatrick Park this August. After asking USA Softball to inspect the fields, Raleigh County works to improve the facility before the upcoming event.

Hedrick says 32 teams will visit the area for the tournament.

“If you picture that, 11 to 12 girls on a team, plus the coaches and a lot of times moms, dads, grandmas, brothers, sisters,” said Hedrick. “You’re looking at anywhere from 2500 to 3500 people in a weekend staying in our hotels, eating our food and seeing our sites.”

Of the 32 spots available, six teams have already signed up.
