WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Good morning all, and happy Wednesday. Today will be a good day to be weather aware as we are likely to have some strong to severe storm development later on this afternoon and evening. Our entire region is under a level 2 out of 5, or slight severe weather risk today. The strongest storms will be capable of producing gusty winds up to 60 mph, localized flooding, and hail.
You can expect storms across Appalachia as early as 4 PM this evening, and lasting through the overnight hours. I’m going with everyone seeing rain today, with up to 0.5″ possible for most, and locally higher amounts possible.
Temperatures today will be quite hot and sweaty, with a potential heat record being broken today. The highest temperature we’ve ever seen today in Beckley is 88 degrees, and I’m going with 89 today. Humidity levels will be high, which will help fuel storms today. Drink your water!
By tomorrow, we will be clearing out and drying out as well. Temperatures cool down back to normal tomorrow, with warmer temperatures and rain chances increasing by the weekend. Stay safe!
