It was a good day for weather across Southern West Virgnia. Mostly sunny sky and temperatures into the upper 70’s and 80’s for some. As we head into tomorrow though, the severe weather potential does return. A Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for the majority of our area, but there is a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for the Greenbrier Valley. Damaging winds up to 60 mph is the main threat. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, so we will have to watch the threat for some minor flash flooding.
Here is the look at the future radar Sunday afternoon and evening which shows some stronger storms moving through parts of our area. Not everyone will see these storms, but the potential for a storm or two does exist.
We will get drier after Sunday, and the next main threat for active weather is Thursday, where the Storm Prediction Center actually has our area under a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for severe weather on that day as well. That is pretty far out, so we aren’t putting much stock into that right now, just something we will watch as we get closer to Thursday because strong storms are definitely possible.
Looking at the European model over the next 7 days with rainfall, it does show a good chunk of rain falling across our area with some people nearing 2 inches. The GFS model shows some areas over 3.5 inches of rain. Either way, this will help out our drought and we could see even more improvement with it over the next couple drought outlooks
Taking a look at the full 7 day forecast. An 80% chance of rain tomorrow with severe thunderstorms being possible (Mainly in the Greenbrier Valley) before rain starts to dissipate on Monday. Most of Monday through Wednesday will be mostly sunny with very comfortable temperatures before the potential for strong storms on Thursday, potentially lasting that rain into Friday. Saturday starts to clear out again, as temperatures remain in the 70’s.
