There is potential for some severe weather as we head through the day Sunday. Depending on how much clearing can take place after morning showers, some of the thunderstorms Sunday evening could be on the severe side. Here’s one model run around 7-8 PM Sunday that shows some strong thunderstorms impacting our western areas. While everyone is under a Marginal Risk of severe weather, I feel the most likely people to one or two severe storms are western counties.
Digging into each risk individually, the main threats with Sunday’s storms are winds up to 60 MPH and localized flooding concerns. The same area susceptible to flooding will likely be at risk again if a thunderstorm sets up shop there. The threat for tornadoes and large hail is very low however, as most of these storms will not be organized enough to prompt those threats.
Here is a look at the risk of Excessive Rainfall which does highlight our area under a Marginal Risk of that as well. Most of this will be localized to whoever gets the thunderstorm activity and with the storms moving to the northeast, could foster some type of backbuilding to the southwest that could also lead to some flash floooding concerns, but the highest threat of that could be just to our west. It looks to still be close enough to foster our attention.
Looking at the full 7 day forecast, there is definitely a chance to see rain every day next week. The most likely rain chances come Sunday and early week, however. Thunderstorm potential does exist and severe weather outside of Sunday looks low at this time.
