Stop the spread: seasonal flu cases surging in southern WV

MERCER COUNTY, WV  (WOAY) – WVU Princeton Community Hospital is reminding residents that flu season is definitely here.

They are urging everyone to take precautions as cases rise across the region.

“The number one thing – flu vaccines,” said R.N. Infection Preventionist Whitney Horne. “You have to think about yourself and others. Flu vaccines are going to protect you selfishly, but they’re going to protect the rest of the community as well.”

According to Horne, ensure you do that first and foremost. Second is hand hygiene.

“Kids are starting back at school, and winter break is over. It’s super important to wash your hands,” the infection preventionist said. “Teach your littles to wash their hands, coming home from school, while they’re at school. Hand-washing is going to help more than anything.”

Make washing your hands a priority, no matter where you are.

“Encourage your family, your friends, your loved ones,” said Horne. “Get that flu vaccine. It saves lives.”
