Stay crunchy: Pickles from the WV Pickle Guy are a hot holiday gift

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – With the holidays upon us, from Black Friday to Small Business Saturday to Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday, there have been so many ways to give.

And not always traditional gifts. Take the public’s love for The Pickle Guy.

From the state fair to his holiday shop, they love to celebrate the season with some of Troy Stiffler’s pickles.

“It’s just a pickle craze right now,” Stiffler said. “I mean, you have pickle chips, pickle candy bar, pickle fudge, all kinds of stuff.”

The Pickle Guy’s Crossroads Mall store is open every weekend through the holidays and daily for the 12 days before Christmas.

“See how busy we are; we got our famous pickle bar out today, and we have 19 homemade flavors,” said Stiffler.

According to The Pickle Guy, his pickles are super special, from the gourmet to 45 flavors in his line now, and that crunch.

“We’ll continue to grow, and our shipping portal is getting ready to start,” he said.

The history of pickles dates back more than 4,000 years to ancient Mesopotamia, where cucumbers were first preserved in brine to store them.

“We’re always continuing to make pickles. Our pickles are fresh. They’re cold brown pickles, so you have to keep them going consistently,” said Stiffler. “And, we’re always rotating the flavors.”

The Pickle Guy says it was an awesome Black Friday, with a steady stream of pickle-loving customers all day.

“With all the stuff you can buy online now, people are not out as early, but the mall’s packed, and there are a lot of people here,” Stiffler said.

There’s been an explosive interest in pickles, with the green condiment now regularly trending in cultural and culinary spaces.

“We’ve been super blessed and honored that people keep coming back,” said The Pickle Guy.
