State Softball Tournament Update – May 23

Vienna, WV (video courtesy WCHS) – The 2018 state softball tournament began Wednesday in Vienna, though games were delayed due to field conditions. However, all scheduled games were able to be played.

In Class A, Fayetteville opened play against Sherman. The Lady Pirates were led by Ashley Fridley’s seven strikeouts, but the Tide would go on to win 3-0. In their second game against Moorefield, Skylar Richards hit a three-run home run, but the Yellow Jackets went on to win 15-4.

In Class AA, Wyoming East face Chapmanville in their first game. The Lady Tigers established momentum early, but Kari Walker recorded a two-run home run. However, Chapmanville would win the opening-round matchup 5-3, and in the evening Petersburg would win 7-0.

Wednesday’s results mean an end to the 2018 high school softball season for area teams.
