Greenbrier County, WV (WOAY) State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Greenbrier County.
Authorities report that on Monday, April 6, at 11:57 p.m., officers responded to a call reporting shots fired at Greenbrier West High School.
While patrolling the area, deputies heard more gunshots coming from a wooded area on the west side of campus and went to investigate.
Upon arrival, they saw a light moving through the woods and discovered a person in the area.
Authorities issued commands to the individual, who then reportedly fired a pistol at the deputies.
The officers returned fire, striking the suspect and securing the weapon.
The deputies provided CPR to the suspect while contacting emergency services for assistance.
Fire and EMS personnel responded to the call, airlifting the suspect to a trauma center for further medical treatment.
Authorities report that while the incident took place at Greenbrier West High School, the incident was not school-related and there is no threat to students, staff, or faculty.
West virginia state police are conducting the investigation.
