West Virginia (WOAY) Two West Virginia volunteer fire departments are among 150 nationwide receiving $10,000 grants through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program.
The Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department in Wayne County and Summers County Volunteer Fire Department in Hinton are this year’s West Virginia recipients.
The program is a partnership between State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council, providing $1.5 million to volunteer fire departments nationwide this year.
The grants can be used for critical equipment, including protective gear, EMS and rescue tools, communication devices, and other department necessities.
Organizers say the funding is especially important for volunteer departments that often operate with limited budgets.
The announcement was made August 18, a date many recognize as Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day.
Since the program began in 2024, $4 million has been distributed to support volunteer fire departments across the country.
