Springfield claims first WTT win of 2020 season

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY) – After dropping their first two matches of the 2020 season, the two-time Springfield Lasers took a close contest 20-18 over Washington to collect their first victory at the Greenbrier.

The Kastles, who entered the match 2-0, started strong with a 5-2 win in the women’s singles set, before Springfield won women’s doubles by the same margin. The match would remain close throughout the afternoon, but Mitchell Krueger edged Tommy Paul in the final set – men’s singles – to secure the win.

After four days of ideal weather, today marked the first instance of matches having to be moved indoors to the Greenbrier’s Tennis Center because of storms. Hear from Krueger on how he was able to adjust to playing indoors after starting the set on the Center Court at Creekside.

Also winning on Thursday was Orange County Breakers (25-13 over Vegas) and New York Empire (24-16 over Orlando). There are no remaining unbeaten or winless teams.

Four matches are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday, starting at 9 AM.
