Spring makes its debut, but it doesn’t feel like it!

Spring made its debut at 5:01 a.m. this morning, but the weather doesn’t feel like it! Temperatures are actually staying steady or falling as the afternoon goes on and we’ll be below freezing everywhere by tomorrow morning. This after we tied a record high in Beckley yesterday of 79 degrees! It’s dramatically colder now than it was 24 hours ago.

It’s also windy in some spots and there is a Wind Advisory in effect for the Greenbriar Valley.

On the back side of the low, the colder air will mean that any precipitation that falls later tonight will fall in the form of snow. With the winds out of the northwest, there will be some upsloping in areas to the northwest of the spine of the Appalachians and along and west of the West Virginia Turnpike and I-77. Snowfall totals will not be heavy, but some accumulation is possible.

Any travel delays will be due to wet roads and should be in the form of wet roads, with some slick spots along the less traveled routes and on bridges and overpasses.

After a quiet start to the weekend, the active weather will continue through much of the seven-day forecast period.
