Southwest Virginia police department warns public of potential scams

Richlands, VA (WOAY) – As warmer weather approaches, local law enforcement is asking the public to be on the lookout for a potential scam.

According to a media release from the Richlands Police Department, dishonest individuals posing as legitimate contractors may be in the area with offers for “free asphalt,” which often result in unexpected charges for labor.

Officers urge residents to always have a written contract in place before any work begins. Residents also need to verify that the contractor is duly licensed within both Richlands and Tazewell County.

If you suspect you have been a victim of such a scam, please contact the Richlands Police Department at (276) 964-4035.
