RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Jennifer Foster has been shopping for fabric and thread at Joann for decades.
She enjoys the warm vibe there and says customers talk to each other.
Learning that the beloved craft giant was going out of business, she called another loss.
“Kind of felt it was coming because I haven’t seen anyone here,” the Hinton resident said. “There’s way more traffic in the Goodwill. We’re new to the area, but usually when we’re in Joann there’s more employees than customers.”
The former Virginia resident used to shop at Hancock Fabrics until that went out of business.
“Hancock and Joann’s were probably hand in hand,” Foster said.
Eighty-two years strong: Joann announced the nationwide closure after a January Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
A Beckley employee said the team and community are heartbroken, and thought 300 stores would remain open, but ultimately all 800 are closing their doors.
