Fayette County, WV (WOAY)- The Southern Appalachian Labor School (SALS) announces its ongoing sponsorship of the federally funded Summer Food Service Program, as part of its annual Feed & Read initiative.
This summer, free lunches will be available to all children ages 18 and under, regardless of income or enrollment status.
Children will also receive free books and participate in a site-based reading component to encourage literacy and learning during the summer break.
Meals will be served Monday through Friday from June 16 through August 8, 2025, at the following locations:
- BridgeWater Apartments – 60 4th Ave., Montgomery, WV | 12:00–12:30 p.m.
- Gertrude Apartments – 244 Lykens Ave., Smithers, WV | 12:45–1:15 p.m.
- Collin Wood Trailer Park – 1 Crestview Dr., Oak Hill, WV | 12:00–12:30 p.m.
- Pine Knolls Apartments – 99 Pine Knolls, Oak Hill, WV | 12:45–1:15 p.m.
- SALS Community Center – 1862 Beards Fork Rd., Robson, WV | Time TBD
No registration is required—any child who wishes to participate is welcome.
There will be no meal services on June 19 and 20 in observance of Juneteenth and West Virginia Day, and on July 4 for Independence Day.
Last summer, the Feed & Read program served over 1,000 meals to local children. This year, SALS hopes to reach even more families—but they need the community’s support.
The program faces rising costs for fuel, utilities, books, insurance, and perishable food and milk.
Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to SALS P.O. Box 127
Kincaid, WV 25119 or online via PayPal at: www.sals.info/donate
