Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The Southern Appalachian Labor School (SALS) received a $2000 donation from the Food Lion Feeds charitable foundation to help fight hunger in the mountain state.
The Feeding the Hungry grants assist SALS with buying food staples and non-perishables to help as many families as possible.
The funding will help the organization fulfill its mission to help feed, clothe, and provide affordable housing to those in need.
The donation comes amid food bank CEOs nationwide reporting the worst rate of hunger they’ve witnessed in years due to ongoing economic inequality and the ending of pandemic-era aid.
Since 2001, The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has helped families experiencing food insecurity across ten states and has awarded over $18.1 million in grants.
