Sophia,WV (WOAY) The Sophia Area Volunteer Fire Department will open an emergency warming station overnight tonight as dangerously cold weather continues across the region.
The warming station is at 463 Robert C. Byrd Drive in Sophia, operating from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.
The station will provide a safe, heated space with seating and basic refreshments for anyone in need of shelter.
Fire department officials say their goal is to make sure everyone in the community is safe and warm.
They’re also encouraging residents to check on neighbors, especially the elderly and other vulnerable individuals, during this period of extreme cold.
