Sophia, WV (WOAY) – The library in Sophia started off their summer reading program with a bang. The West Virginia Reptile Expo brought a few reptiles to the library on Wednesday to have an interactive learning experience about the animals and to take pictures with them. From gecko’s to snakes; the kids got up close and in some cases, personal, with some of these reptiles.
This is just one of the many events that the Sophia branch library is going to put on this year as a part of the summer reading program.
Kathy, one of the librarians there spoke about what the program is, she said, “All summer long, every Thursday at 1:00, we’re going to have a program here.
We’re going to have different activities for kids to do scavenger hunts, crafts, and at the end there’s going to be a party where they can win prizes. We’re just trying to prevent that summer slide. We’re trying to make sure that the literacy stays up. We’re trying to help kids as much as they can, but we also want them to have fun and enjoy their summer”.
