Guitar-banjo builder shares his works at 2025 Clifftop

CLIFFTOP, WV (WOAY) – An Asheville, North Carolina-based guitar and banjo builder returned for his second year as an Appalachian String Band Festival vendor.

Noon Day Stringworks’ Phil Whitlock lovingly crafts the instruments from sustainable North American timber.

Longtime Clifftop attendees encouraged him to take part in the festival.

“We have a pretty entrenched old-time community in Asheville. This feels like a natural, massive extension of that family,” said Whitlock. “So I really love coming to camp, seeing everybody out playing and easily the best jams at any old time music camp all year.”

According to Whitlock, his favorite Clifftop competitions include banjo and neo-traditional music comps.

“Otherwise, getting out for dances and jams,” he said.
