OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Snow continues to stubbornly persist this evening, as banding has set up in the area along and to the northwest of the spine of the Appalachians. Most of the snow ended during the evening, but a few flurries could still fly in some areas.

Bitter cold temperatures will be the big story tonight. Make sure that you are bundled up if you’re planning to head out tonight and tomorrow morning. Lows will be near zero, and with some wind, many locations will have feels-like temperatures in the double digits below zero.

The cold air sticks around all week long. Highs will be in the upper teens and lower 20s, and lows will hover around the zero-degree mark through the entire extended forecast. It’s way below the normal on both ends of the scale.

With it being so cold, the snow may not be going anywhere anytime soon, but at least we won’t be adding too much to the snow piles. A weak clipper system will come through the area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The clipper is a quick mover, and with very dry air in place, we won’t be able to squeeze much in the way of accumulation out of it.

At the end of the forecast, another strong storm will aim for the Atlantic coast. For now, the two major atmospheric models vary in both the projected path and strength of this next big storm. The GFS has the storm turning into a very strong low well off the North Carolina coast (with a pressure that would be the equivalent of a hurricane). The European model also has a strong system off the coast. Neither has any major impact on our area. This type of Nor’Easter (which is what it will be) tends to produce the heaviest snow over the eastern portions of the area. The low looks like it will be far enough offshore to leave most areas out of any heavy snow at this time, but we’ll be tracking it for you.
