Slab Fork Road scheduled to close for canopy cutting starting December 6

Raleigh County, WV (WOAY)  – Raleigh County Route 34 Slab Fork Road will be closed starting Wednesday, December 6, for canopy cutting.

The closure will begin at mile marker 0.00 to mile marker 2.08 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The project will take place on weekdays only and crews anticipate finishing by Friday, December 13.

Crews are currently cutting branches and brush-hanging roadways statewide to preserve the life span of the road’s pavement.

Moist pavement results in the asphalt becoming destroyed, and clearing the canopies provides additional sunlight to the roadways below.

Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may impact the project schedule.

The West Virginia Division of Highways apologizes in advance for the inconvenience.

Travelers should observe all traffic control signs and use caution when driving around the work zone.
