Fairlea, WV (WOAY) – At the State Fair, a local Shriners club is collecting donations for a cause that reaches well beyond West Virginia.
The Greenbrier Valley Shriners Club is raising money and spreading awareness for Shriners Children’s, the fraternity’s network of pediatric hospitals that treats kids at no cost to their families.
“We have a whole bunch of Shriners hospitals around the country. We raise money to send to those hospitals to help kids who have various issues. 100% of the money that goes in these jars goes to the hospitals,” said Stephen Simmons, a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine.
Fellow member Robert Dietz says the support extends beyond the medical care itself.
“The parents don’t pay anything, but we furnish the transportation if they want it. And we’ll take them to the hospital if they have to stay. Parents can sometimes stay with them while they’re there and they do different surgeries and different things for them,” Dietz said.
Those wanting to give can find the club’s table and donation jars under the Grandstand Marketplace through the end of the fair.
