Showers dwindle as temperatures tumble with wind this Thursday

Southern West Virginia is in for a much different day compared to yesterday, as rain and freezing rain showers begin to taper off. While most areas will see drier conditions by this afternoon and into tomorrow, precipitation will linger a bit longer in the higher elevations. With the passage of a strong cold front, any remaining moisture in the mountains will transition to snow by tonight.

Meanwhile, temperatures will steadily drop throughout the day, and gusty winds will make it feel even colder than the actual readings. Some power outages may become possible due to the strong wind gusts.

Friday will bring much quieter weather, but the cold will persist. However, any break from active weather will be short-lived, as dangerous rains return on Saturday. Heavy downpours will increase the risk of widespread flooding throughout the weekend, so residents should stay alert for updates.
