Showers and storms tonight, more on the way

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We’re seeing showers and isolated storms around the region this evening. Some of the storms have featured gusty winds and quite a bit of lightning, but so far have stayed below severe limits.

If there is a threat with any of the showers and storms that pop up, it will be the chance for flooding in the creeks and low-lying spots, along with ponding water on the roads. In late-breaking weather news, Flood Advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for the southern and eastern areas due to heavy rain that has fallen so far and the additional rain that is expected.

Later tonight, the rain will end, and patchy fog will be the main travel concern, especially in places that see some rain today. Lows will be in the mid-60s.

Tomorrow will be similar to today as the summerlike pattern continues around the region. The one most notable difference in the pattern is that the Level 1 out of 5 possibility for severe weather, which today extended into the Greenbrier Valley, will be out of our area completely, although once again one or two of the storms could have gusty winds.
Once again, and even more so than today, flooding rains remain the main threat. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 80s. This same pattern repeats itself during the first half of the weekend.
By Sunday, weak high pressure takes over the weather, at least temporarily. This leads to the rain chances dropping to 20%, with the showers falling primarily during the morning hours. Highs during the weekend will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. After Monday, the wet and warm pattern returns to the area and stays with us through the rest of the seven days.
After the end of the extended forecast, there are hints at a cooldown as a front will make its way out of Canada and stall south of the Great Lakes. How far south it gets – or whether the front is not able to make it into the US – will determine whether we see a cooldown or not.
