Sheets Automotive Athlete of the Week – Sydney Vaught

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Despite being just a sophomore, Sydney Vaught is Woodrow Wilson’s leading scorer and most vocal leader.

Even more impressively, she didn’t start playing striker for the team until this off-season. Throughout middle school and during her freshman year, Vaught played center back.

After Vaught made goal after goal in practice, head coach Julie Agnor made the choice to switch her from defense to the attack. That decision has paid off, to say the least.

Vaught scored all three goals in the Flying Eagles’ 3-1 victory over Pocahontas County on September 15th, notching the first hat trick of her high school career. She followed that up two goals against Greenbrier East September 22nd.

Vaught, the cousin of Marshall University cross country runner Ryan Vaught, has dreams of following in his footsteps and playing at the division one level.

Next up, Woodrow Wilson travels to Spring Valley for a Thursday night game.
