GARDNER, WV (WOAY) – PikeView girls basketball is in the Class AA state tournament for the first time in seven years, thanks in large part to senior Laken McKinney.
The forward, who will continue her basketball career next season at WVU Tech, recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Panthers in their regional win last week against Wyoming East. She is one of several seniors who have stepped up over the season to lead PikeView to Charleston in 2020, after coming up short in regionals in the past.
The Lady Panthers have also been motivated to play well in recent weeks with the news that longtime Karen Miller is retiring at the end of the season. Miller is quick to give credit to the hard work the players have put in since the beginning of the year.
PikeView plays defending state champion Fairmont Senior in the quarterfinals Wednesday morning at 9:30.
