WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): While today will start off with partly sunny skies and brilliantly warm temperatures, severe storms will be developing and heading our way this afternoon. Meteorologist Christian Boteler breaks the forecast down:
As clouds build in the afternoon, severe storms will develop from the Midwest into our area. These storms will bring damaging winds and a possibility of hail as winds above the surface will be strong. An isolated spin-up cannot be ruled out either, especially for northern Fayette and Nicholas counties. Ponding of water in vulnerable areas will be possible as well, though not prevalent as these storms will be fast-moving. Here’s a breakdown of the severe weather risks:
The timing of these storms will be variable as the developing line will move swiftly through the area. The general timing for the area is late afternoon through nighttime, with storms moving out around midnight. Northwestern parts of the area may see these storms as early as 4 pm, while the Greenbrier Valley will likely see their first storms later in the evening. Remember to stay weather aware, be prepared for these storms, and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Our StormWatch 4 Weather App is available for download, and we will send push notifications with any watches or warnings we receive.
After the severe weather comes through, a cold front will cause a significant cooldown once again. The back end of the system will also bring scattered showers on Tuesday before we finally clear out on Wednesday. We stay in the low 50s tomorrow through Wednesday, so any showers should not develop further into storms after the front comes through.
Thursday will see temperatures back around average and sunny skies as a high pressure sticks around the eastern half of the country. Friday will be more of the same with even warmer temperatures, finally getting back into the 70s. Saturday will be our next chance for rain and storms as the next front comes through the area. While these storms may not be severe, they will put a damper on Easter weekend plans. On Easter Day, the showers will leave and give us wonderful weather. Mostly sunny skies and temperatures still in the 70s for the area will be a great ending to the weekend.
