Pretty good day today and Father’s Day will not be much different across our region. There is a small chance of shower activity Sunday, but Monday is our big day of rain potential. The Storm Prediction Center has most of our area under a Marginal Risk of severe weather, but there is a Slight Risk for some, mainly parts of the Greenbrier Valley. Damaging winds appears to be the main threat.
In addition to severe weather, most of our area is under a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall for Monday, which could exacerbate our flooding potential. So Flash Flooding is another concern we have to watch for Monday.
The GFS model is the first picture of rainfall that we could see over the next 7 days. This would definitely bring a Flash Flood concern. Meanwhile, the European model is not nearly as bullish on rainfall totals, keeping most people below an inch. Although, Flash Flooding could still be a concern in that case.
Looking at that 7 day forecast. Wednesday appears to be our main dry day, although none of our days should be complete washouts. I put a sun in Monday because of the potential of clearing in between morning rain and afternoon storms. IF that clearing comes to fruition, afternoon storms would be stronger. IF that clearing doesn’t really come and we remain mostly cloudy, then the afternoon storms might not be of much concern, other than flooding.
