Search intensifies for missing Crichton man

(WOAY) – Audie AJ Sloan went missing under suspicious circumstances in Greenbrier County on November 26, 2024.

In the four months since, his heartbroken family has been trying to get answers but say they are frustrated by law enforcement’s lack of urgency.

They want to bring AJ home and are pleading for the public’s help.

The 40-year-old’s family filed a missing person’s report with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department (Officer Kevin Sawyers) on December 4, 2024. On December 5, they issued a warrant for phone records. It took 40 days to receive part of them.

His sister, Amber Kidd, says it’s been a roller-coaster of emotions.

“Some days we are mad, some days we are sad, some days we are on our phones and never put them down,” Kidd said. “We’re constantly trying to follow up with leads. People from the community have been reaching out to me and AJ’s other sister. We have heard lots of rumors. However, none of them have led to his whereabouts.”

While AJ Sloan was active in his addiction, he always stayed in contact with his family. Then he stopped showing up for key dates he never would have missed.

“We’ve been grieving him as if he was deceased. There’s just been a lot of circumstances around his case that would lead us to believe that.”

According to Kidd, the family feels that because AJ’s case involved addiction, his story was swept under the rug and went cold. They are certain he is in the Crichton/Quinwood area. Amber says she and AJ had a special bond, and growing up her brother was always her protector.

“With that, the family does suspect foul play, and we are asking that anyone come forward,” Kidd said. “The family has been able to secure a $10,000 reward for the exact location of our brother. In the world we live in today, we’ve lost sight of the value of human life.”

While Amber says AJ had a rough time of it the past few years and didn’t make the best decisions, he mattered and she is never going to give up finding him.

“He loved being outdoors, had a smile that would just light up a room. He was always laughing and cutting up,” said Kidd. “Just a bright light to all of us who came in contact with him, to all of us who loved him. A huge heart.”

This is such a heartbreaking outcome for the family. Amber says they expected to get a call that AJ had overdosed, but never that he had gone missing.

“Deep down inside, the real AJ was a wonderful, loving man who didn’t deserve this,” Kidd said. “We ask that if you know his exact location, that you would just come forward and give his family the closure that we deserve.”
