SCARBRO, WV (WOAY) – Memorial Day is a time to pause and remember the fallen who served our country and sacrificed for our freedom.
For many, it’s also considered the unofficial kickoff to summer.
Businesses often take the federal holiday off, except Scarbro Market.
“We are seeing a lot of people from out of town because nothing around here is open right now,” said Manager A.K. Patel. “A lot of traffic today; it’s been a really busy day.”
Folks happily flock to Scarbro for whatever they need.
“It’s nice; we can come get drinks, and people come through here a lot, and it’ll open more business for him, too,” Oak Hill resident D.J. David said.
Patel creates a comfortable camaraderie and establishment that the neighborhood can count on, resulting in repeat customers.
“Like the last-minute stuff they forgot to get,” said the manager. “We carry a little bit of everything, so it’s convenient for them and we are open and accessible, full regular hours.”
David stops in Scarbro Market almost daily.
“I’m always coming through here to see my buddies or ride dirt bikes,” he said. “You can get everything here.”
Having this roadside gem open on Memorial Day helps the community and keeps Scarbro Market going, too.
“We’re a well-established neighborhood business,” said Patel. “Convenient for everyone if they want to grab a quick meal, to take home, heat and eat. People around here are very friendly and supportive.”
