Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – Before we know it, the warm weather will be upon us, and kids will be looking for something to do.
The Salvation Army of Beckley’s Red Shield Youth Center summer camp is focused on everything the kids (five to 18, grouped by age) are going to enjoy.
Each week will have a different themed activity to empower children and build better communities in our area.
“We have Creative Campers Week, Wellness Week, Gamer Week, Pet Week, Camp Rappahannock (an overnight week camp), Builders and Recyclers Week, Chef Week, and Camp Scott Talent Week,” said Director Emma Harvey. “Each one of those, we will have a fun Friday field trip based on that theme.”
According to Harvey, it’s important to have this program because otherwise, kids will just go home to play video games by themselves.
“Not out meeting people, building friendships, and making a difference in the community,” the director said. “What I love about being here is that I can see kids flourish, make a difference, and make best friends that will last a lifetime. We also center ourselves around making Jesus’ name pivotal; that’s the most important thing about our club.”
