Ghent, WV (WOAY) Music lovers came together in Ghent this Sunday to attend a concert, all with a common goal. Weathered Ground Brewery was the location for a benefit concert called ROCK ALS to raise money for local musician Michael Pannell, who is currently battling ALS.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a rare nervous system disorder that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Local musicians Shawn Benfield, Jonah Carden and band Nothing Noble took the stage together to use their talent to help out a fellow musician and his family. Event organizer Chris Berry says there are more ways for people to help Mike:
“There’s an event page on Facebook; there’s QR codes and stuff if people want to donate that way after today… they can donate directly to Mike’s, any of his things. There’s 3 different QRs in there, accounts for him and stuff. There’s a GoFundMe online too, so if you look up the event, you can look up my band, Nothing Noble. If you look us up on Facebook, it’s all on there, and people have been sharing it all over the place. It’s pretty big.”
All proceeds from today’s concert will go directly to the Pannell family to assist with medical expenses.
